RAILWAY STATION MISSION MUNICH

The Lavendel - an emergency overnight stay for women in acute distress

Since April 2020, the "Lavendel" has enabled the Munich Railway Station Mission to offer women in acute emergencies overnight accommodation, provide them with basic necessities and offer pedagogical advice and support.

For women in distress, the station mission is often the only place at night where they can be taken in. The Munich station mission has long offered these women protection and peace and quiet during the night between 9.30 p.m. and 7 a.m. as well as a clearing meeting the next morning. In 2019, there were 1212 overnight stays at the station mission, 123 of which were children.

Lavendel was created with project funding from the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising to help women in emergency situations and situations of transition, as well as women who are mentally or physically very ill and unstable and can no longer take the necessary independent steps.

A four-bed room can be made available for women in need in a guesthouse within walking distance of the station mission. Here, the women can find a safe place to stay overnight, a place to spend the day and care for their basic needs such as hygiene, food and clothing. An additional contingent of 20 pedagogical hours allows for care and support during the stabilisation and clarification phase as well as collaboration with cooperating institutions.

The social support system will be supplemented by the new facility and at the same time relieved; the new service will not compete with existing low-threshold services.
